Another Win for Habtoor Polo and UAE Polo Teams at the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020


22/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The fourth day of Dubai Open 2020 qualifiers saw Habtoor Polo, Bangash Polo, UAE Polo and Zedan Polo teams battle it out on the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.
 
Bangash took the lead by the end of the first chukker with goals from Manuel Elizalde and Frederico Potobsky. Habtoor Polo made a huge leap as Facundo Sola scored four goals for the team which earned them a one-goal advantage. The third chukker saw Habtoor Polo widen the score gap as they added three goals. Post halftime, both teams scored a goal with an excellent steal by Facu and delivered to goal by Martin Podesta. The last chukker rolled with a good start for Bangash Polo with a goal from Elizalde and two more close to the end of the game. Esain's backhand assist to Facu plus a last-second goal secured the win for Habtoor Polo at 10 goals to 7.

An exciting match followed with a strong start for UAE Polo team with a two-goal lead over Zedan Polo. Juan Juaretche and Santiago Laborde settled the next chukker with teams tied at three goals. An intense fourth chukker ensued with UAE Polo demonstrating a strong defensive play. Zedan Polo managed a one-goal advantage at the end of the chukker due to a last-second penalty called in their favour. Tomas Panelo, relentless, scored two goals that grabbed the lead for UAE Polo during the chukker. Sheikha Maitha, the patron of the UAE Polo team, sealed the win with the last second by a goal that resulted in a final score of 10 goals to 7.

AM – UAE Polo and Ghantoot Polo Teams Conquered the Third Day of the Dubai Open 2020 Qualifiers

21/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE:The third day of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup started with a ceremonial ball toss to celebrates the 150th anniversary of Polo in the modern era and the formation of rules that have evolved to form the game of today.
 
AM - UAE scored the first goal of the match, and the game took on an exciting start as Abu Dhabi polo team matched this with three consecutive goals taking the lead in their favour. The second chukker opened with a goal from Faris Al Yabhouni, patron of Abu Dhabi Polo team and Jacinto Crotto and Santiago Cernadas levelled the game by the sound of the buzzer. Abu Dhabi had regained their lead by mid of the 3rd chukker but AM - UAE was relentless, and both teams were tied by halftime. The penultimate chukker continued with the same intensity and ended with one-goal advantage for Abu Dhabi. The last chukker started with a penalty shot from Santiago Cernadas, and both teams played hard for the win. It was the last goal from Ignacio Acuña that bagged the win for AM - UAE Polo with a final score of 9 goals to 8.

The next match was between Ghantoot Polo and Dubai Wolves with the goal from Juan Gris Zavaleta. However, the advantage that Ghantoot built over the previous four chukkers won them the match at 9 goals to 5.

Habtoor Polo & UAE Polo Teams Successful on the Second Day of the Dubai Open 2020



19/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: It was a double-action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club as Habtoor Polo played against Zedan Polo with a final score of 12 - 8 and UAE Polo won with 12 goals against Bangash Polo team.

Habtoor Polo secured a fast lead and ended the first chukker with a three-goal advantage. Zedan Polo recovered during the second game with two goals from its Patron, Amr Zedan. Facundo Sola managed to break the tie with an angle shot at 70 yards out early on the third chukker which Santiago Laborde quickly recovered with a goal. Habtoor Polo's lead took off with the three goals from Facu and the two goals scored by Martin Podesta sealed the win for the team at 12 goals to 8.

Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 Kicked Off with a Win for Abu Dhabi and AM/UAE Polo Teams


18/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The most prestigious polo tournament in region opened with two exciting games – Abu Dhabi Polo vs. Ghantoot Polo and Dubai Wolves vs. AM/UAE Polo teams.

The first goal was scored by Martin Donovan, an angle shot which gained Abu Dhabi Polo team its one-goal advantage at the end of the first chukker. Marcos Panelo Jr. raked in the first goal for Ghantoot Polo team that was matched by Alfredo Cappella during the second chukker. The advantage was still in favour of Abu Dhabi Polo by half time and Faris Al Yabhouni, patron of the team scored a goal during the penultimate chukker. Pablo Llorente of Ghantoot Polo was able to steal the lead briefly but the Abu Dhabi managed to end the fourth chukker with a two-goal advantage. The determining chukker had Ghantoot Polo close in on its opponent but the time wasn't enough and the game ended with 10 goals to 9 in favour of Abu Dhabi Polo team.

The win was imminent for Dubai Wolves at the fifth chukker however Jacinto Crotto scored two fast goals that paved the victory for AM/UAE Polo that resulted in a final score of 5 goals to 4.

Habtoor Polo Takes Home the Polo Masters Cup 2020 Title

14/02/2020: DUBAI, UAE:
The Dubai Polo Gold Cup organization declared a new champion for the Polo Masters Cup in 2020 - Habtoor Polo team - lead by its Patron, Mohammed Al Habtoor. 

The guests of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club witnessed another thrilling end to the second tournament of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series. Hesketh Polo faced Mahra Polo team at the Subsidiary Final with an opening goal from Tuki Guinazu. By halftime, Hesketh Polo had the lead with a one-goal advantage. The third chukker had seen Kim Roche take the lead further with a neck shot and soon followed by a goal from Manuel Plaza. The penalty shots from Tuki and Khalaf Al Habtoor during the last two chukkers were not enough to recover their lead and Hesketh Polo won the Subsidiary Match at 6 goals to 4.

The fight for the second trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series was between Habtoor Polo and Green Gates Polo team. The game started slow, and the first chukker ended with one goal in favour of Habtoor Polo. Green Gates had the lead by the end of the second with four goals from Pelayo Berazadi, and the team kept the lead through to the end of the third chukker. The final chukker had seen both teams battle it out for the win as the score was tied by mid chukker with a goal from Felix Esain for Habtoor Polo. Pelayo regained the lead with a penalty shot only to be matched by JJ Diaz Alberdi that resulted in a fifth chukker. The golden goal was scored by Justo Cuitino and Habtoor Polo celebrated a great win with 8 goals against 7.

Dubai Polo Gold Cup Announces the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 Tournament Fixture



The Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020, held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, is scheduled to kick off on 16 February 2020 with the participation of eight of the region’s renowned polo teams. The tournament’s live draw was held on 10 February 2020 at Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, home ground of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup (DPGC) Series.
 
Growing in parallel with the city of Dubai, the Gold Cup (Dubai Open) is one of the five- mid to high-goal tournaments that fall under the umbrella of the DPGC Series. Along with the Silver Cup and Dubai Challenge Cup, also part of the DPGC Series, the Gold Cup is certified by the World Polo Tour (WPT).
 
As part of the WPT Championship Cup, the Dubai Open is considered to be one of the highest competitions in terms of points, on par with just four global tournaments held in Argentina, Spain, UK and US. Awarding 125 points to its winners, 65 points to finalists, 45 points to semi-finalists and 30 points to other participating players. The tournament is played under the banner of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), as per strict HPA rules and umpire supervision.
 
The Dubai Open saw at least six and up to eleven teams compete each year since inception and has achieved prominence through high-intensity games with world-class players such as 10-goal superstars Pelon Stirling, Pablo Mac Donough, Polito Pieres, and Alejandro Novillo Estrada ; famous 9-goalers including Lucas Montverde, Naci Heguy, Nico Pieres, and Alfredo Cappella.
 
In the tournament’s 11th year, Standard Chartered Bank takes on the role of title sponsor.

Habtoor Polo Team Successful on the First Day of the Polo Masters Cup 2020

The polo action continues at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club with the Polo Masters Cup 2020 tournament. There will be five teams participating from 09th - 14th February - Habtoor Polo, Hesketh Polo, Green Gates Polo, Mahra Polo and UAE Polo. 


The first day of the tournament opened with a goal from Raja Abuljebain for Hesketh Polo team and the teams were tied at three goals at the end of the first chukker. Habtoor Polo took the lead by the end of the second chukker with goals from JJ Alberdi and Felix Esain and by halftime, the team had created a five-goal advantage over Hesketh. The game ended with a win for Habtoor Polo at 10 goals to 5.

Ghantoot Polo Claims the Silver Cup 2020 Trophy

The Silver Cup 2020 comes to a close as Zedan triumphed over Dubai Wolves at the Hildon Subsidiary Cup and Ghantoot Polo team emerged victorious over UAE Polo team.
 
The subsidiary match between Zedan Polo and Dubai Wolves opened with a goal from Santiago Laborde. Zedan Polo team had control of the match and delivered goals until the end of the fourth chukker. Amr Zedan the patron of the Zedan Polo team scored three goals for the team. The Dubai Wolves patron Habtoor Al Habtoor had demonstrated a steady performance throughout the game and scored four goals. The team had their best game at the final chukker but Zedan's lead was enough to secure the win and ended the match at 11 goals to 8.

The Club's Friday Polo Picnic was in full swing complete with an array of retail and food vendors and the exclusive Silver Lounge. Polo picnickers watched with excitement by the sidelines, the little ones enjoyed the kids area with free pony rides and the furry ones had a day out in the sun.
 
The much-awaited Silver Cup 2020 final between UAE Polo and Ghantoot Polo was a battle to the finish. The first chukker was on a rather slow start but both teams picked up the pace during the second chukker. Ghantoot Polo had the edge at the end of the second chukker with two back to back goals by Pablo Llorente, a penalty shot by Marcos Araya (Cacu) and a shot by Cesar Crespo. On the third chukker, the penalty shots from Tommy Beresford took UAE Polo team closer to Ghantoot's lead. The penultimate chukker had both teams try and grab the lead as both scored three goals each. The determining chukker saw Cacu place one goal for the team that poised Ghantoot Polo for the win but Benjamin Panelo matched the goal at 60 seconds left on the clock. Ghantoot Polo managed to keep the lead and the won the match at 9 goals to 8.5.

Ghantoot Polo and UAE Polo Teams Win at the Semifinals of the Silver Cup 2020

The excitement builds up as the final day of the Silver Cup 2020 tournament comes closer. The semifinals concluded with an exciting finish as four teams brought their A-game to the field.
 
The supporters of Ghantoot Polo and Habtoor Polo teams were on the edge of their seats as both teams were neck and neck throughout the game. The first chukker saw Habtoor Polo in the lead with a three-goal advantage by the buzzer. Ghantoot Polo team delivered goals on the second chukker with a notable goal from Pablo Llorente after he stole the ball from Facundo Sola (Facu) resulting into a tie. The teams were still at a tie by halftime as they scored two goals each with Facu's long-shot pass that allowed for Martin Podesta (Min) to level the game. 
 
Ghantoot took the lead early on the penultimate chukker, but Habtoor Polo made a comeback with a goal from Min and a penalty shot from Facu. It was tense during the last chukker as Marcos Araya (Cacu) evened the score with two goals. A sixth chukker seemed imminent until a penalty was called which paved the win for Ghantoot Polo as Cacu's 60yd penalty shot ended the game with a final score of 11 goals to 10.

The next match between UAE Polo and AM/UAE Polo teams was one-sided with UAE Polo's 1.5 handicap advantage and the two goals by the end of the first chukker. AM/UAE Polo recovered and closed in on its opponent during the second chukker with goals from Jacinto Crotto and Santiago Cernadas. Tommy Beresford from UAE Polo widened the gap in scores with three goals by halftime. The last two chukkers were crucial for AM/UAE Polo team but in spite of goals from its players, UAE Polo's 3.5 goal advantage and defensive play were enough to secure the win resulting to a final score of 10.5 to 8.

AM/UAE Polo Team Makes it to the Semi-Finals of the Silver Cup 2020

The last of the qualification matches of the Silver Cup 2020 concluded at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.
 
The first match between Zedan Polo and AM/UAE Polo teams started in equal footing and ended in a tie at 2 goals each. AM/UAE had the lead on the second with the two penalty shots from Jacinto Crotto and a goal by Santiago Cernadas. A neck shot from Santiago Laborde inched Zedan Polo closer only to be matched by a goal by Cernadas. Zedan Polo team scored two additional goals however, the four-goal advantage proved to be enough for AM/UAE Polo team to earn its spot at the Silver Cup 2020 semifinals.

Dubai Wolves steadily took their shots in the succeeding chukkers but the lead was still in Ghantoot Polo's favour. The initial lead by Ghantoot Polo was enough to win the match and the game settled at 10 goals to 9.
